New Delhi : A dense fog blanketing northern and northeastern regions, including Uttar Pradesh, Chandigarh, Rajasthan, and Bihar, has led to significantly reduced visibility, causing disruptions in daily life and delays in flight operations on Thursday morning.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported, “Fog conditions observed (at 0830 hours IST of today): Very Dense fog over Jammu, Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh, West Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar; Dense Fog over Delhi, Uttarakhand, East Rajasthan, East Madhya Pradesh, and Tripura, and Moderate Fog over West MP, Odisha, and Manipur.”
Visibility recorded at 0530 hours IST in Uttar Pradesh indicated extremely low figures: Bareilly at 25 meters, Lucknow at 25 meters, Bahraich at 25 meters, Prayagraj at 50 meters, Varanasi at 50 meters, Gorakhpur at 200 meters, and Sultanpur at 200 meters, as per IMD.
At 0830 hours IST, the recorded visibility (in meters) in various states is as follows:
- Jammu & Kashmir: Jammu – 25
- Punjab: Patiala – 25; Amritsar – 50
- Haryana-Chandigarh: Chandigarh & Ambala – 25 each; Karnal – 50
- Delhi: Ayanagar – 50
- Uttarakhand: Pant Nagar and Nainital – 50 each
- Rajasthan: Bikaner – 25; Kota, Jaipur, and Ajmer – 50 each; Jaisalmer – 200
- Bihar: Purnea – 25
- Madhya Pradesh: Sagar – 50, Gwalior, and Khajuraho – 200 each
- Odisha: Rourkela – 200
- Jharkhand: Daltonganj – 200
- Tripura: Agartala – 50
- Manipur: Imphal – 200
Thick fog in Uttar Pradesh’s Gorakhpur severely impacted visibility, leading to disruptions. Similarly, the Bhankrota area in Jaipur, Rajasthan, experienced reduced visibility due to thick fog on Wednesday morning.
Flight operations faced delays at Delhi airport due to low visibility caused by the dense fog. According to the IMD, Delhi is expected to witness extremely cold weather in the next few days, with the minimum temperature touching 7 degrees Celsius on January 3.
