Indian-American entrepreneur turned politician, Vivek Ramaswamy, announced the suspension of his 2024 Republican presidential campaign on Monday, citing disappointing results in the Iowa Caucus. Ramaswamy, 38, expressed his acknowledgment of the lack of a viable path to the presidency during a speech to his supporters in Iowa. The Iowa Caucus marked the official commencement of the 2024 White House race, with former President Donald Trump securing a victory and strengthening his position for the party’s nomination.
Trump secured 51% of the votes, with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis at 21.2% and Indian-American former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley closely following at 19.1%. Ramaswamy trailed in fourth place with 7.7% of the votes. The entrepreneur, who entered the presidential race in February, decided to throw his support behind Trump, calling to congratulate him on his caucus win.
In a joint appearance with Trump in New Hampshire, where the primary is set for January 23, Ramaswamy officially endorsed Trump for the presidency. The entrepreneur, known for founding Roivant Sciences in 2014 and successfully leading biotech IPOs, emphasized his commitment to the “America First” agenda and urged his supporters to back Trump.
Ramaswamy, a second-generation Indian American, entered the Republican Party’s presidential primary following the footsteps of Nikki Haley. His background includes founding successful healthcare and technology companies, and in 2022, he launched Strive Asset Management, aiming to empower everyday citizens in the American economy.
