Srinagar, Jan 24: Breaking the grip of intense dry cold that has held Kashmir and brought below-normal temperatures to Jammu, the Meteorological (Met) department has forecasted an end to the prolonged dry spell. The department predicts snow/rain in both plains and higher reaches from January 26 to February 1.
After the extended dry spell, relief appears to be on the horizon. Snowfall is anticipated in Kashmir between January 26 and February 1. The Met department statement indicates that between January 28 and 29, light to moderate snowfall is expected in lower, middle, and higher reaches at many places. Furthermore, between January 30 and 31, light to moderate snowfall is likely at widespread locations.
As of now, Srinagar recorded a minimum temperature of minus 5.3, Gulmarg registered minus 4.8, and Pahalgam reported minus 6.3. In the Ladakh region, Leh town experienced a minimum temperature of minus 11.5, and Kargil recorded minus 10.1. In Jammu city, the minimum temperature was 2.3, Katra recorded 4.6, Batote reported 1.5, Bhaderwah had minus 1, and Banihal recorded minus 1.8.
The ‘Chillai Kalan,’ a 40-day period of harsh winter cold, commenced on December 21 and is set to conclude on January 30.
