
Srinagar: In anticipation of the Republic Day functions on January 26, a robust multi-layered security grid has been implemented across Jammu and Kashmir. The Union Territory is on high alert within the security grid to counter any potential threats from militants aiming to disrupt official celebrations.
IGP Kashmir Vidhi Kumar BBhirdi assured that all security arrangements are in place, with the multi-level security grid on high alert mode to ensure the smooth conduct of official functions across the Valley. The IGP emphasized that there would be no restrictions on people’s movement, inviting everyone to participate in the Republic Day events across Kashmir. Security forces are geared to facilitate the public’s movement towards the venues.
When asked about the possibility of attempts by militants to disrupt Republic Day functions, IGP BBhirdi stated that such inputs are under constant scrutiny, and the security forces are prepared to address any challenges.
The main Republic Day parade in Jammu will be held at Moulana Azad Stadium, where LG Manoj Sinha will unfurl the tricolor. In Kashmir, the main function will take place at Bakshi Stadium, where LG’s Advisor B R Bhatnagar will take the parade salute.
In Srinagar, with heightened security, police and CRPF have intensified frisking at various points, including roads connecting with the highways. Joint teams of army, police, and CRPF have been deployed on highways to prevent untoward incidents. In Jammu, a high alert has been sounded, with security forces maintaining the highest vigil to ensure a smooth Republic Day passage. Forces in both regions are on high alert mode.
DGP RR Swain chaired a high-level joint security meeting in Kashmir to review preparedness for Republic Day celebrations. Officers from Police, Army, CRPF, BSF, SSB, CISF, and other agencies participated. The meeting focused on security of vulnerable areas, persons, and places, with discussions on intelligence gathering, area domination, naka checking, and the security of sensitive venues.
DGP RR Swain directed officers to ensure optimal security arrangements at all Republic Day celebration venues by utilizing available resources effectively. Stressing on the highest level of security, he highlighted the attempts from across the border to infiltrate terrorists into J&K and emphasized strict monitoring against terror support systems. The DGP directed a serious review of security measures at vulnerable places, identification of new forms of terror modules, and simultaneous actions within the parameters of the law. The focus remains on peaceful conduct of Republic Day celebrations amidst continuous attempts by external forces to disrupt the peace in Jammu and Kashmir.
