Mumbai, February 13: Former Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan announced his decision to join the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday.

“This marks the beginning of a new chapter in my political journey,” stated Chavan, who parted ways with the Congress party on Monday, addressing reporters.

Ashok Chavan, aged 65 and the son of former CM S. B. Chavan, emphasized that his departure from the Congress was a personal choice and refrained from citing specific reasons for his decision.

His exit from the Congress followed the recent resignations of senior Maharashtra Congress leaders Baba Siddique and Milind Deora from the party.

Hailing from Nanded district in the Marathwada region, Chavan served as the state Congress chief from 2014 to 2019. He represented the Bhokar assembly seat and also served as the former Member of Parliament from the Nanded Lok Sabha constituency.
