MENDHAR/JAMMU, February 23: A rusted landmine, discovered near the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district, was safely neutralized by an Army patrol through a controlled explosion on Friday, officials reported. The abandoned landmine was located in close proximity to the border fence in the Balnoi area of the Mankote sector on Thursday. Following the discovery, experts were promptly called in, leading to the secure destruction of the landmine. Officials highlighted that the region’s forward areas are equipped with landmines as part of an anti-infiltration obstacle system. However, factors such as rainfall can sometimes displace these mines, potentially leading to unintended explosions, they added.
