Srinagar, March 19: Most places across Jammu and Kashmir experienced a drop in night temperatures on Tuesday, amid forecasts of generally cloudy weather with the possibility of light rain/snow from March 21, according to a meteorological department official.
Srinagar recorded a minimum temperature of 2.5°C, down from 3.5°C the previous night, marking a deviation of 2.2°C below the normal for this time of the year in the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir.
Qazigund, the gateway town of Kashmir, saw the mercury drop to 2.2°C from 2.8°C, registering a deviation of 1.4°C below the normal.
Pahalgam, the renowned resort in south Kashmir, witnessed a low of minus 0.9°C, compared to minus 1.3°C the previous night, marking a deviation of 1.0°C below the normal.
Kokernag, also in south Kashmir, recorded a minimum temperature of 3.8°C, up from 3.2°C, indicating a deviation of 0.3°C above the normal.
Kupwara town reported a low of 1.5°C, down from 1.3°C, with a deviation of 1.6°C below the normal.
In Gulmarg, the world-famous skiing resort in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, the temperature dropped to minus 1.0°C from minus 0.5°C, marking a deviation of 1.3°C above the normal.
Meanwhile, Jammu recorded a minimum temperature of 14.4°C, which was 0.5°C below the normal for the winter capital of Jammu and Kashmir.
Banihal registered a low of 5.0°C, Batote 8.3°C, and Bhaderwah 4.6°C, the official added.
