Noida, March 20 : In a commendable effort, Gautam Buddh Nagar district swiftly removed 11,682 defacements, including wall writings, posters, and banners, within a span of 72 hours in adherence to the model code of conduct for the Lok Sabha elections, official data revealed.

Of these defacements, 9,361 were found on public properties, while 2,321 were observed on private spaces across the district, according to data accessed by PTI on the enforcement status of the poll code.

The Election Commission’s guidelines dictate the prompt removal of all defacements on government properties within 24 hours of the election announcement. Additionally, any unauthorized political advertisements on public properties and spaces must be removed within 48 hours, as per EC directives.

Moreover, any unapproved political advertisements displayed on private properties should be eliminated within 72 hours from the announcement of polls, subject to local laws and court directions, the poll panel stipulates.

The enforcement data from Gautam Buddh Nagar illustrates a proactive approach, with local election authorities removing defacements from 9,361 public and 2,321 private properties across the district between March 17 and March 19.

Remarkably, 6,329 defacements were eradicated within 24 hours of the model code of conduct taking effect, with 10,611 removed within 48 hours and the total reaching 11,682 within 72 hours, the data showcased.

“We are ensuring 100 per cent compliance of the guidelines of the Election Commission on the model code of conduct for the upcoming polls,” stated Additional District Magistrate Nitin Madan to PTI on Wednesday.

The Gautam Buddh Nagar Lok Sabha constituency, encompassing Noida and Greater Noida, is scheduled to vote on April 26 in the second phase of the general elections. With 26.20 lakh registered voters, the constituency comprises five state assembly areas, excluding Khurja and Sikandrabad from Bulandshahr district.
