New Delhi : Following its recent launch of a “pure vegetarian” delivery fleet, Zomato has decided to maintain its traditional red uniform for all delivery partners, including those serving purely vegetarian orders. This decision marks a shift from the initially proposed plan of having a separate green uniform for the vegetarian fleet.
Zomato founder Deepinder Goyal announced the decision on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, clarifying that all riders, irrespective of the type of orders they deliver, will continue to wear the color red. This adjustment comes after concerns were raised about potential misinterpretation or discrimination against delivery partners associated with non-vegetarian food.
In a statement shared on social media platform X, formerly Twitter, Goyal emphasized the importance of ensuring the safety and well-being of Zomato’s delivery partners. He acknowledged that segregating the fleets based on dietary preferences could inadvertently lead to social stigmatization or exclusion, particularly during special events or in certain residential areas.
The introduction of the “pure veg” delivery fleet aims to cater to the specific dietary preferences of vegetarian customers. However, Zomato assures that the initiative does not discriminate against delivery partners based on their personal dietary choices. Goyal reiterated the company’s commitment to addressing any potential challenges or negative social implications arising from this change.
In addition to the “pure veg” fleet, Zomato is planning to introduce more specialized delivery services to meet diverse customer needs. This includes the upcoming launch of a dedicated cake delivery fleet equipped with hydraulic balancers to ensure the safe transportation of cakes without smudging during delivery.
The rollout of the “pure veg” fleet and other specialized services will occur gradually across different regions in the coming weeks, with Goyal himself participating in delivering some pure vegetarian orders alongside Zomato’s delivery partners.
