Baramulla, March 23: Minga Sherpa, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Baramulla, reiterated on Saturday that political parties are required to obtain proper permission from the District Election Officer (DEO) before organizing any political rally or procession.
Sherpa made these remarks while addressing media personnel during an event organized as part of the Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) initiative, aimed at raising voter awareness.
During the event, DC Baramulla flagged off a boat rally from the suspension bridge at Deewan Bagh, which culminated at Eco Park Baramulla.
“According to the guidelines set by the Election Commission of India (ECI), political parties must seek permission from the District Election Officer for any political rally, event, or procession,” stated DC Baramulla.
He emphasized the administration’s efforts to ensure compliance with ECI guidelines, including those related to expenditure monitoring and the Model Code of Conduct (MCC), to ensure free, fair, and transparent elections.
Preparations for the elections are underway, with the first round of randomization already completed, attended by representatives of all political parties and Assistant Returning Officers (AROs), Sherpa informed.
The Baramulla parliamentary constituency is scheduled to go to polls in the fifth phase, as per the notification issued by the ECI.
Regarding the SVEEP programme, Sherpa highlighted the importance of raising awareness among the public to maximize participation in the electoral process. He expressed satisfaction with the response received through such events and pledged to continue organizing similar initiatives across all segments of the Baramulla district.
