New Delhi, Mar 28 : Arvind Kejriwal, the Chief Minister of Delhi and convenor of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), is set to appear before the Rouse Avenue Court following the conclusion of his Enforcement Directorate custodial remand on Thursday. Kejriwal’s appearance in court is scheduled for later today.
In addition to this, the Delhi High Court is slated to hear a public interest litigation (PIL) seeking the removal of Arvind Kejriwal from his position as Chief Minister of the Government of NCT of Delhi. The bench, comprising Justice Manmohan and Justice Manmeet Pritam Singh Arora, is expected to address the matter on Thursday.
Earlier remarks from Sunita, the wife of Arvind Kejriwal, suggested that he would disclose pertinent details regarding the case during his court appearance on March 28. Kejriwal was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate on March 21 in connection with an alleged excise policy-linked money laundering case.
Regarding the legal proceedings, the Delhi High Court issued a notice to the Enforcement Directorate in response to a petition filed by Kejriwal challenging his arrest and the granted remand. The court emphasized the importance of granting both parties the opportunity for effective representation, indicating that refusal of this opportunity would amount to denial of fair hearing and violation of natural justice principles.
The court further clarified that any release order from custody would constitute granting bail or interim bail to Kejriwal as an interim measure. It stressed that the writ jurisdiction under Article 226 of the Constitution of India is not typically a substitute for the remedy of bail under Section 439 of the CrPC.
Meanwhile, protests are expected to escalate in the national capital, with AAP supporters intensifying their demonstrations. Additionally, the INDIA bloc plans to hold a joint rally at Ram Leela Maidan on March 31 to protest against Kejriwal’s arrest.
