New Delhi, March 29: The Election Commission (EC) declared on Friday that its C-Vigil mobile application has emerged as a powerful tool for citizens to report violations of the poll code. Since the announcement of the Lok Sabha elections, the EC has received more than 79,000 complaints through the app.
The EC stated that over 99 percent of the complaints have been addressed, with nearly 89 percent resolved within 100 minutes of receipt. The majority of the complaints, approximately 58,500, were related to illegal hoardings and banners, accounting for 73 percent of the total number of complaints. Additionally, over 1,400 complaints were lodged regarding the distribution of money, gifts, and liquor.
Approximately 3 percent of the complaints, totaling 2,454, pertained to the defacement of property. Of the 535 complaints concerning the display of firearms and intimidation, 529 have been resolved.
Among other violations, around 1,000 complaints were received for campaigning beyond the prohibited period, including the unauthorized use of speakers beyond the permitted time.
The EC highlighted that during the press conference announcing the Lok Sabha poll schedule, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar had urged citizens to remain vigilant and utilize the app to report violations of the Model Code of Conduct and any attempts to influence voters through inducements.
The Lok Sabha elections, conducted in seven phases, were announced on March 16, with voting scheduled between April 19 and June 1.
