New Delhi, March 29: Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the significant potential of technology in agriculture, education, and health during an interaction with philanthropist and Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates on Friday. He underscored his government’s efforts in these sectors and expressed determination to bridge the digital divide in India.
Modi highlighted the importance of allocating funds for local research in cervical cancer to develop cost-effective vaccines. He also emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring vaccination, particularly for girls. Addressing concerns about climate change, he advocated for redefining development parameters and promoting concepts like green GDP and green employment.
Regarding Artificial Intelligence (AI), Modi cautioned against viewing it as a replacement for human effort and stressed its potential for enhancing productivity. He cited his own use of AI in various contexts, including translating speeches and addressing language diversity.
The Prime Minister emphasized the democratization of technology and its equitable distribution, particularly in rural areas. He showcased initiatives like the “Drone Didi” scheme for women in agriculture and telemedicine services for remote patients.
Modi highlighted the role of digital technology in addressing educational challenges and expressed confidence in India’s capabilities in the fourth industrial revolution. He cited the successful implementation of the CoWin platform for Covid vaccination as an example of India’s technological prowess during the pandemic.
