Srinagar, Apr 01: Jammu and Kashmir Police is gearing up to provide comprehensive training to its personnel for anti-terrorism operations. After completing their training at Police Training Academies and Centres, all probationary officers of Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) in the ranks of Deputy Superintendents of Police (DySPs), Sub Inspectors (SIs), and constables will undergo specialized training in counter-terrorism operations.

Reports indicate that batches of officers who have already completed their training will gradually undergo training for counter-terrorism operations. The training will cover various aspects of anti-terror operations, including operations in hilly areas, forests, and hinterlands.

This initiative comes in the wake of Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s recent statement about the Central Government’s plan to gradually withdraw troops from Jammu and Kashmir, entrusting law and order responsibilities to the local police force.

Notably, both forthcoming and previously trained batches of officers will undergo training in anti-terror operations.

Nearly 1,000 probationary police officers, including 62 Deputy Superintendents of Police, are currently undergoing a six-week-long training at the Army’s counter-terror White Knight Corps battle school in Doda district.

This integrated training program, a first of its kind in the Union Territory, commenced on March 19. It aims to enhance coordination and operational capabilities between the police and the army, which have been combating terrorism together for over three decades.

The training program focuses on operational tactics, intelligence sharing, and counter-terrorism strategies, leveraging the Indian Army’s extensive experience in these areas. This joint training underscores a continued commitment to security and the well-being of the region’s residents.

Among those undergoing training, 128 are female officers, including 19 DySPs and 109 Sub-Inspectors.

Such rigorous training is expected to empower the police to effectively combat terrorism across various areas of Jammu and Kashmir, including the twin border districts of Poonch and Rajouri.
