New Delhi : Congress leader and incumbent MP Rahul Gandhi has disclosed assets exceeding Rs 20 crore in his nomination papers for the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat in Kerala.
In an affidavit filed before the returning officer on Wednesday, Gandhi declared movable assets worth over Rs 9 crore (Rs 9,24,59,264) and immovable assets worth over Rs 11 crore (Rs 11,15,02,598), totaling assets worth over Rs 20 crore (Rs 20,39,61,862).
Additionally, he disclosed co-ownership of two pieces of land with his sister, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. Gandhi listed various sources of income, including MP’s salary, royalties, rentals, interests, dividends, and capital gains from mutual funds and other sources. The affidavit indicated a total income of Rs 1,02,78,680 for the fiscal year 2022-23.
Gandhi’s educational qualifications include a Bachelor of Arts degree from Rollins College, Florida, in 1994, and an M.Phil in Development Studies from Trinity College, University of Cambridge, in 1995.
On Wednesday, Gandhi submitted his nomination papers for the Wayanad parliamentary constituency after leading a roadshow at Kalpetta in Wayanad. Thousands of people, along with UDF leaders and workers, attended the event to welcome him. Accompanied by his sister Priyanka Gandhi, Rahul conducted a roadshow from Kalpetta to Civil Station.
During the event, Gandhi expressed his readiness to address Wayanad’s issues on a national and global platform.
In the same constituency, CPI national leader and Left Democratic Front (LDF) candidate Annie Raj also submitted her nomination papers. The CPI, a partner of the ruling Communist Party of India (Marxist)-led Left Democratic Front in Kerala, is contesting against the Congress.
The BJP, aiming for significant gains in the 2024 elections, has nominated Kerala State President K Surendran as a candidate from the constituency as part of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
Kerala, known for its strong Congress presence, sends 20 parliamentarians to the Lok Sabha. Voting for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections in Kerala is scheduled for April 26, with the counting of votes set for June 4.
