During a public rally in Udhampur, Prime Minister Narendra Modi criticized opposition parties for perpetuating dynasty politics, asserting that family-run parties have caused significant harm to Jammu and Kashmir. He condemned such parties as representing “of the family, by the family, for the family.”
Highlighting the Congress’s role, PM Modi accused the party of stalling the Shahpurkandi Dam project for decades, which resulted in depriving Jammu’s farmers of water while supplying Ravi water to Pakistan. He contrasted this with his administration’s commitment to fulfilling promises, particularly regarding water resources.
Recalling his visit to Udhampur in 2014, PM Modi reiterated his pledge to address the longstanding issues faced by the region. He credited the support of the people for enabling the fulfillment of this promise.
The rally witnessed a large turnout, with attendees expressing enthusiastic support for PM Modi and the BJP. The party has nominated Union Minister Jitendra Singh for the Udhampur seat, who has held the constituency since 2014. The Congress, meanwhile, has fielded Choudhary Lal Singh, supported by the Peoples Democratic Party, for the upcoming elections.
Udhampur is slated to vote in the first phase on April 19, with the BJP and the National Conference being the main contenders in the region.
