J&K: Meteorological Department Forecasts Increased Rainfall as Nighttime Temperatures Rise Across the Region

Srinagar, Apr 17: The weather department in Srinagar has predicted “widespread light to moderate rain and thunders” on April 18 and 19, alongside a rise in night temperatures across most places in Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday.

According to a meteorological department official, “On April 18-19, generally cloudy weather with light to moderate rain and light snow over higher reaches is expected at most places with thunder/lightning during April 18 evening to April 19 late evening/night.”

He further mentioned that light rain is anticipated at scattered places over the weekend, while from April 21-25, generally dry weather is expected, although isolated afternoon thundershower activity cannot be ruled out.

In terms of temperatures, Srinagar recorded a minimum of 9.4°C, up from 7.6°C on the previous night, which was 1.5°C above normal for this time of the year. Qazigund recorded a minimum of 6.2°C, lower than the previous night’s 7.4°C, and 0.3°C below normal for the town.

Pahalgam experienced a low of 2.1°C, compared to 8.1°C on the previous night, which was 1.3°C below normal. Kokernag recorded a minimum of 7.0°C, slightly above the previous night’s 6.9°C, while Kupwara town saw a low of 7.0°C, below normal by 0.6°C.

Gulmarg recorded a low of 1.6°C, lower than the previous night’s 0.4°C, and below normal by 0.7°C. In Jammu, the minimum temperature was recorded at 16.3°C, which was below normal by 3.6°C. Banihal recorded a low of 11.8°C, Batote 11.5°C, and Bhaderwah 7.8°C.
