JAMMU, April 19 : Voting is currently underway amidst rainfall in the Kathua-Udhampur Parliamentary Constituency, spanning across five districts, as part of the first phase of Lok Sabha elections. Initially, the voting started at a slow pace, but officials anticipate an increase in voter turnout as the day progresses.
An official noted that most areas within the Kathua-Udhampur parliamentary constituency are hilly regions, and the rainy weather has led to fewer voters turning up at the polling booths in the early hours. However, it is expected that voter participation will rise later in the day, extending until 6 pm.
Clarifying the voting schedule, the official emphasized that polling will only continue after 6 pm if there are voters still waiting at the polling stations.
According to weather forecasts, the region is expected to experience generally cloudy skies with light to moderate rain, including light snowfall in higher elevations. Thunder and lightning may also occur, potentially causing temporary disruptions in surface transportation in certain higher areas.
