Jammu and Kashmir Records Below-Normal Night Temperatures Amid Forecast of Generally Dry Weather

Srinagar, April 22: Jammu and Kashmir experienced below-normal night temperatures on Monday, even as the local meteorological department forecasts generally dry weather until April 25, officials reported.

According to a Meteorological Department official in Srinagar, the city recorded a minimum temperature of 6.7°C, down from 8.4°C the previous night, marking a deviation of 2.2°C below the normal for this time of year. Similarly, Qazigund saw a low of 4.8°C compared to 9.2°C the previous night, reflecting a deviation of 2.7°C below normal. Pahalgam and Kokernag, famous resorts in south Kashmir, recorded temperatures 2.1°C and 2.2°C below normal, respectively.

Kupwara registered a low of 6.5°C, 1.1°C below normal, while Gulmarg, known for skiing in north Kashmir, recorded a temperature 3.1°C below normal at 0.2°C.

In Jammu, the minimum temperature was recorded at 18.8°C, below normal by 2.2°C, while Banihal, Batote, and Bhaderwah recorded lows of 8.2°C, 4.1°C, and 7.6°C, respectively.

Regarding the forecast, the official stated that generally dry weather is expected from April 21-25, with the possibility of isolated afternoon thundershowers or hailstorms. From April 26-28, generally cloudy weather with light to moderate rain and snow is anticipated over higher reaches, accompanied by thunder in most places. Finally, from April 29-30, generally cloudy weather with light rain and thunder in many places is predicted.
