Srinagar: Rains swept through the plains while upper reaches, including Gulmarg, witnessed fresh snowfall, according to officials on Friday.
A meteorological department official reported that Srinagar received 9.7mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours until 0830 a.m. Qazigund received 3.4mm, Pahalgam 16.0mm, Kupwara 9.2mm, Kokernag 2.9mm, Jammu 0.1mm, Banihal 9.0mm, Batote 10mm, Katra 3.4mm, and Kathua 2.6mm. Gulmarg recorded 1.5cm of snowfall during the same period.
Regarding temperatures, Srinagar recorded a minimum of 7.2°C, a decrease from the previous night’s 9.9°C. Qazigund recorded 7.0°C, Pahalgam minus 3.7°C, Kokernag 5.6°C, Kupwara 6.6°C, and Gulmarg minus 0.5°C.
In Jammu, the temperature dipped to a minimum of 17.7°C, while Banihal recorded 9.0°C, Batote 8.7°C, and Bhaderwah 8.0°C.
The forecast suggests an improvement in weather conditions, with light to moderate rain/thunderstorms expected over Jammu and Kashmir in the next 24 hours. From March 23-26, generally dry weather with brief cloudiness is expected. On March 27, partly to generally cloudy weather with light rain/snow at few places is anticipated. From March 28-31, intermittent light rain and snow are predicted at many places.
