Srinagar, March 23: Night temperatures in Jammu and Kashmir witnessed a decline, with mercury dropping below the sub-zero level in Gulmarg and Pahalgam on Saturday.
According to a meteorological department official, Srinagar recorded a minimum temperature of 6.5°C, compared to 7.2°C the previous night, marking a deviation of 1.5°C above normal for this time of the year in the summer capital of JK.
Qazigund reported a minimum temperature of 5.8°C, down from 7.0°C the previous night, which was 2.1°C above normal for the gateway town of Kashmir.
Pahalgam experienced a low of minus 1.1°C, contrasting with 3.7°C recorded the previous night, marking a deviation of 1.5°C below normal for the famous resort in south Kashmir.
Kokernag, also in south Kashmir, maintained a minimum temperature of 5.6°C, the same as the previous night, with a deviation of 2.3°C above normal.
In Kupwara town, the minimum temperature dropped to 5.6°C from 6.6°C the previous night, marking a deviation of 1.1°C below normal.
Gulmarg, renowned for its skiing, recorded a low of minus 2.5°C, compared to minus 0.5°C the previous night, which was 0.9°C below normal.
Meanwhile, Jammu recorded a minimum temperature of 14.4°C, which was 1.1°C below normal for the winter capital of J&K.
Banihal reported a low of 7.6°C, Batote 9.1°C, and Bhaderwah 7.0°C.
The meteorological department forecasts generally dry weather with brief cloudiness until March 26. On March 27, partly to generally cloudy weather is expected with light rain/snow at a few places. From March 28-31, partly to generally cloudy weather is anticipated with the possibility of intermittent light rain and snow at many places.
