Kashmir Prepares for Rainy Weather Amid Rising Nighttime Temperatures

Srinagar, Mar 27: With an increase in night temperature attributed to overnight cloud cover and forecasts for a wet spell, Jammu and Kashmir experienced milder conditions on Wednesday. According to a meteorological department official, Srinagar saw a minimum temperature of 9.5°C compared to 5.4°C the previous night, marking a notable rise above the seasonal average for this time of year. In Qazigund, the minimum temperature stood at 8.0°C, up from 4.4°C recorded the night before, indicating a deviation of 3.3°C from the normal temperature for the gateway town of Kashmir. Pahalgam registered a low of 4.7°C, a significant increase from the previous night’s 0.7°C, exceeding the typical temperature for the renowned resort in south Kashmir by 3.3°C. Similarly, Kokernag recorded a minimum temperature of 7.7°C, up from 6.6°C, while Kupwara witnessed a low of 7.7°C compared to 3.3°C, both exhibiting deviations above the normal temperatures for their respective areas. Gulmarg, famous for its skiing, recorded a minimum temperature of 3.0°C, indicating a rise of 3.8°C from the previous night and remaining above the average temperature. Jammu, the winter capital, experienced a minimum temperature of 18.0°C, exceeding the seasonal average by 1.4°C. Banihal, Batote, and Bhaderwah recorded lows of 10.2°C, 13.5°C, and 9.0°C respectively, as reported by the official. The forecast for the region anticipates generally cloudy weather with light rain in the plains and snowfall in higher reaches from the evening of March 27th to the 28th. On March 29th, partly cloudy weather with light rain or snow is expected at isolated places, while from March 30th to 31st, partly to generally cloudy weather with intermittent light rain or snow is forecasted at a few places.
