New Delhi, April 15: K Kavitha, a prominent figure in the BRS party and daughter of former Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, has been remanded to judicial custody until April 23 by a Delhi court. She was arrested in connection with a corruption case related to the alleged Delhi excise policy scam. Kavitha was taken into custody from Tihar Jail, where she was detained following her arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).
Appearing before the court after the expiry of her three-day police custody, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) stated that further custodial interrogation was unnecessary. Kavitha’s legal representatives, Nitesh Rana and Deepak Nagar, contested the police’s plea, arguing that there were insufficient grounds to justify her continued detention as she is no longer required for interrogation.
Kavitha had previously been questioned by CBI officials within the prison premises, with permission from a special court. This interrogation focused on WhatsApp conversations retrieved from co-accused Buchi Babu’s device and documents pertaining to a land transaction allegedly linked to a payment of Rs 100 crore in kickbacks to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), purportedly influencing the excise policy in favor of a liquor lobby in the national capital.
The ED had initially apprehended Kavitha from her residence in Banjara Hills, Hyderabad, on March 15. Since then, she has been in judicial custody in connection with the case.
