Baramulla, Apr 23: In Baramulla, police have taken decisive action against eight notorious drug smugglers, invoking the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT-NDPS) Act, 1988. The formal detention orders were obtained from the competent authority to ensure legal proceedings against the accused.
The individuals identified as Javid Mohiuddin Bhat, Danish Ahmad Dhobi, Ghulam Mohiuddin, Adil Ahmad Bhat, Wikar Hussain Beigh, Afreed Ahmad Wani, Bilal Ahmad Bhat, and Mohammad Asif Bhat, hailing from various localities in Baramulla and Srinagar, were apprehended and subsequently confined to Central Jail Kot-Bilwal in Jammu.
These smugglers, allegedly involved in multiple cases of drug trafficking, were found to be supplying drugs to local youth in several areas across the district, including Bandi, Kunzer, Ogmuna, Pattan, Mirgund Wagoora, Kreeri, and others. Despite facing numerous FIRs, they persisted in their illicit activities, contributing to the prevalence of drug abuse in the region.
The decisive action taken by law enforcement underscores the commitment to combating drug trafficking and safeguarding communities from the harmful effects of substance abuse. It serves as a stern warning to those engaged in such nefarious activities, emphasizing the consequences of flouting the law and perpetuating drug abuse in society.
