Ladakh : Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, has approved road projects amounting to Rs 1,170.16 crore for Ladakh. These projects will encompass state highways, major roads, and other district roads. Additionally, a sum of Rs 181.71 crore has been allocated for the construction of 8 bridges under the Central Road Infrastructure Fund (CRIF) Scheme for the fiscal year 2023-24, as stated by Gadkari on Friday.
Highlighting the significance of these projects, Gadkari emphasized that Ladakh, as the largest Union Territory in terms of area and the second least populous in India, will experience enhanced connectivity to its remote villages. The minister anticipates that this improvement will stimulate economic activities, particularly in agriculture and tourism, contributing to the overall infrastructural development of Ladakh.
Over the past few years, road connectivity in Ladakh has witnessed substantial improvement, with the construction of roads across high passes. Notably, roads are now being developed near the Line of Actual Control (LAC), where objections from Chinese troops had previously hindered Indian development activities.
